Mystery Reader

Hey this Mystery reader looks familiar...Why it's E! One of our former students who is now in grade 1! She is also O's older sister. She came in and read us a book that came highly recommended to her.

E read us; The VERY cranky bear...

O was very happy to see his big sister!

It was great having a former student come in and show the Kindies that hard work and practice can make you a GREAT reader!
Remember we are always looking for Mystery Readers. If you would like to read to the class send me an e-mail and we can schedule you in.

Happy Valentine's

Happy Valentine's day and special thank you to all who donated to the Dance A Thon!

The students had a blast running around and dancing in the gym.

A lot of our classmates spotted older siblings in the crowd too.

Man A, sure knows how to cut a rug!

Did someone say CONGA LINE?

A and C were moving all OVER the dance floor! How did she get her legs to bend like that?

Thank you to all who donated to the DANCE A THON. We have raised over $5000.00

When all of the excitement of the Dance A Thon wore off we headed up to Ms. Cullimore's class to see our reading buddies. They helped us hand out all of our Valentine cards.

Needless to say the kids enjoyed themselves with the bigger kids.

Thankfully we had all these helpers figure out which names go with which Valentine bag.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Dribs and drabs.

Here are some snippets of what we get up to in room 3!

Some of you may have heard about our MAD MINUTE! We are practicing using our number lines to help us with our Addition and Subtraction facts. Or we are just using them to help us count objects with one to one correspondence. This is simple stuff that you can incorporate at home. Get your kids to help you count out items when you are cooking or count up all the socks from the dryer when you are folding clothes. Challenge them with More than or Less than questions. How many would we have if we had 2 more? 8 more? Etc.... Each student works at their own pace. Some do a few questions, some do the whole page. Some get a DOOZY and get a full page with mixed operations! Some just count and that's okay too.

Have you met SUSHI? Apparently we have a VERY friendly neighborhood cat that likes to come and get pets from our students.

O here is working on his T chart and his Yes or No question for a survey we are working on. As the month progresses we will go from Yes or No surveys (e.g. Do you like hot dogs? Yes or No?), to a 2 option survey (e.g. Do you like A or B?). Eventually we will work on a BIG UMBRELLA question with multiple options (e.g. What is your favourite Ice Cream flavour?). All this information will eventually be collected and made into graphs where students will read and interpret their findings.

Can't have Kindergarten without a little play. Here the boys on the carpet are making structure while their peers with the workbooks are conducting their surveys. Make sure to keep track of your tally marks!

C is asking K if she like Alicorns? (Not sure what that is but the kids do...some kind of super my little pony?)

E completed his survey. He had to ask 10 of his peers if they like ROBOTS. The result was 8 love robots 2 are a little cautious about them.

There's lots going on in Room 3! See you in the North Yard.
